The Ages, Stages and Phases of Life!

The Ongoing Series in Nutritional Therapeutics with Mark Anderson

Every moment of living includes cycles of development, maintenance, and repair. The nutriment produced from the dynamic systems of the earth provides the design and perfect material that sustains this process. It is a standard process, moving at rates and rhythms appropriate to the age and stage of any life. The human body extracts, processes, and creates living tissue from this nutriment even as maturing cells and their specialized tissue expire and perish. A knowledge of the nutrients needed, of their forms and synergy, at a particular phase of life is as essential to functional longevity as understanding where a building will stand and for what function it will serve before it is designed. Civilization struggles to render such knowledge moot through evolving technological and crude pharmaceutical means. This is a financial and human tragedy of historic proportions. But a rare and new breed of doctor seeks to understand the arc of the long process so as to support it at every age, stage, and phase of life. This seminar is for that breed of doctor.

From Preconception to Prenatal, from Birth to Puberty, from Adulthood to Maturity, and with all of the bio-milestones between, the human body is a wonderous study of adaptation and acclimation. The endocrine, cardio-vascular, dental, musculoskeletal, digestive, reproductive, and immune systems are examples of the dynamic modulations we traverse through a lifetime. An evolving process securing nutrient acquisition that, in turn, sustains and guides these biological transformations. Experience has taught us how to identify and accommodate healthful transit through the common dangers to which so many fall victim along the way. But health professions have trended toward age segmentation in ever shorter snippets of the journey of life– the opposite of wholistic understanding and practice. Knowledge of how to support lactation issues does not preclude knowledge of how to support prostatic hypertrophy. Insights into recurring childhood ear infections do not restrict knowledge of cardiovascular events in adulthood. Menopause is not so all consuming that there is no room left in our brains for the knowledge to sustain the brain-mind connection as we age. As if losing one’s mind is but a matter of time. When we speak of helping the whole person we mean the whole time of a person. Biological changes require biochemical inputs from nutrient resources, assisted by informed guidance from an enlightened healthcare professional.
