Wholistic Health – Whole Foods Impact on Inflammation Response
Speaker: Sara LeBrun-Blashka, MSNE
The prevalence of chronic conditions have accelerated over the last 30 years, and diet and lifestyle drive a majority of these conditions. Americans have multiple nutrient gaps due to the amount and types of foods that they consume. Sara will explore how whole foods and supplemental nutrients provide a synergistic effect to support overall health and the inflammatory process. Inflammation is a key contributor to chronic conditions. Sara will provide education on the two phases of inflammation (Initiation and Resolution) and their role in health. She will explore the role of omega 3 (resolvins) and miRNA in the resolution phase of inflammation.
Functional Nutrition Approach to Support of Inflammation
Speaker: Ryan Lazarus, DC, MS
Dr Lazarus will discuss the relationship between inflammation and the role of diet. He will review immune triggers of a pro-inflammatory state and potential causes of chronic inflammation, allergies and autoimmunity. Participants will also learn specific immune conditions such as Th1/Th2 imbalances, intestinal hyperpermeability and the concept of leaky gut syndrome.
Resiliency: Natural Solutions to Stress and Inflammation
Speaker: Dan VanDorn, PharmD
Dr. VanDorn will explore the role of genetic and epigenetics on inflammation, stress, and anxiety. He will review nutritional strategies to support resiliency and understand how nutrition can assist a patient with specific SNPs. The presentation will take a more in-depth look at the role of magnesium, turmeric, omega-3 and other nutritional solution for resiliency.
Herbal Approach to Inflammation
Speaker: Marisa Maricano, ND, AHG
Dr. Maricano will provide information on the best possible clinical for using herbs to treat inflammatory conditions. She will provide fundamental similarities & difference between approaching inflammation with herbs. Attendees will be able to recognize and leveraging the value in herbal monographs; learning subsequent actions, constituents, pharmacology, and tissue specificity of common herbs. Dr. Maricano will review the potential of herbs to do so much more than managing inflammation through optimizing multiple synergistic effects of actions & constituents and supporting tissue regeneration and detoxification.
Functional Neurology & Neuro-Immune Controls
Speaker: Ryan Lazarus, DC, MS
Description: The role of nutrition in the brain is key to help manage the inflammatory response. Dr. Lazarus will discuss how combining multiple modalities (nutrition, chiropractic and others) can be implemented in clinical practice.

Sara LeBrun-Blashka MSNE is the director of education and practitioner engagement at Standard Process, where she led the team to launch the new educational website, WholisticMatters.com. Sara is a nutritionist with Master’s in Nutrition Education at American University and a bachelor of science in dietetics and food science. Sara has strong industry experience working for multiple nutrition organizations over the last 20 years.
Dr. Marisa Marciano is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor & Registered Herbalist with expertise in both the education and clinical applications of therapeutic nutrition & phytotherapy. She received her post-degree medical training from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where she is currently both a clinical and faculty member, as well as Chair of the Botanical Medicine Department.
Dr. Ryan Lazarus MSc, CNS, DC is the creator and Clinical Director for Wellness Warrior Rx and Lazarus Wellness located in the Napa Valley and Diablo Valley. He is a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner and Board Certified Nutrition Specialist.
